Technical Explanation: Ratings & Assignments

Combined Rating

Everything except the Handicap event uses Combined Rating. KPLeagues Singles and Cali ratings count equally, but the two systems use different play styles with Cali ratings being an average 33 points higher than singles. Each rating is first adjusted according to how that player compares with the current Tour roster, then the two adjusted results are averaged.

Combined Rating = 50% adjusted Singles + 50% adjusted Cali

A 900 represents the average player in the current field. Ratings above 900 are above the roster average; ratings below 900 are below it. Because the calculation is roster-relative, adding or removing players can change every Combined Rating even when the underlying Singles and Cali ratings stay the same.

Rankings, Dubs & Divisions

Rank 1 is the highest Combined Rating. Rankings estimate relative skill within this Tour field; they do not predict where anyone will finish.

For Dubs, the current rankings are split into upper and lower halves to create the Pro and Am pairing groups. The highest-ranked player is paired with the lowest, then the second-highest with the second-lowest, continuing inward through the field. Those labels apply only to the Tour pairing process, so the dividing line is not fixed at 900. Divisions are also assigned by current rank and divided as evenly as the roster permits.

Why Assignments Can Change

When a player joins, withdraws, or does not participate in an event, the roster is recalculated. Combined Ratings, rankings, Pro/Am groups, partners, pair numbers, and divisions may all move until that event begins.
